The Regional Catchment Strategy for the Port Phillip & Western Port region

Review

Several factors can impact on this Regional Catchment Strategy’s currency - sudden changes to environmental conditions, new information, movements in government policy and shifts in available resources.  Periodic amendments to this strategy may be important to keep it up-to-date.

Any changes to the strategy (specifically the pages in the 'About the Strategy', 'Assets & Targets' and 'Interactive Map' sections) will only be made after a process that includes a period of community consultation and Ministerial consideration and approval as per the requirements of the Catchment & Land Protection Act 1994.

The process for identifying, considering and approving changes is:

  1. Potential changes/improvements to the strategy can be proposed to the Port Phillip & Westernport Catchment Management Authority (as the coordinator of the strategy) at any time by any organisation or individual;
  2. The Port Phillip & Westernport Catchment Management Authority will maintain a list of the most important and/or beneficial potential changes and the rationale for them (included on the Potential changes page)
  3. Public consultation will be undertaken regarding the potential changes to assess support for them and gather alternative suggestions;
  4. Periodically, the Port Phillip & Westernport Catchment Management Authority will present recommendations of change to the Minister for Environment & Climate Change and Water;
  5. The recommended changes will be considered by the Minister(s) and, if approved, will be made to the strategy by the Port Phillip & Westernport Catchment Management Authority.

The website format of this strategy enables changes, once they are Ministerially approved, to be made relatively quickly and the updated strategy to be immediately available to its users.

Suggestions of changes from the community

Suggestions for changes or improvements to the strategy can be made by any organisation, community group or individual at anytime through the ‘Leave comment here’ buttons on every page of the strategy.

All suggestions will be carefully considered by the Port Phillip & Westernport Catchment Management Authority (as the coordinator of the strategy) and may be included in the page of Potential changes and potentially referred to the Minister(s).

Periodic major review including extensive community consultation

While this process for periodically updating the strategy will enable continuous community input and improvement, a stage of major review including extensive community consultation will also be undertaken every 6 years.
